Another scorching hot day in Arizona, another adventure to somewhere new. Montezuma Castle National Monument, located just under 100 miles north of Phoenix, Arizona. This might be the most well preserved cliff dwellings in the entire country. At nearly 1,000 years old these ruins were built by the Sinagua (meaning “without water”) people. Abandoned more than 600 years ago, it is carved out of limestone cliffs, and was once home to roughly 50 people and hundreds more who lived below.

I’ve never heard of these dwellings. So many interesting spots in that part of the USA – worthy of a road trip, really.
I know right? I lived under 2 hours away for the last 10 years and hadn’t visited until now! There’s so many amazing places in the southwest U.S.
I never knew a castle even existed in America until I found this post. Awesome one and I hope I can drive towards here when I will set foot in Arizona.
