Hotel Monaco - Portland, Oregon

Luxury in Downtown Portland, Oregon

Hotel Monaco is a boutique hotel that captures the essence of Portland – it’s different in a great way. The Four Diamond rated hotel is super pet-friendly, full of brightly colored furniture and decor, and has an evening cocktail hour. The welcome package on my room’s table was also an excellent touch, with locally brewed beers and delicious treats, and other neat souvenirs to keep. The hotel itself is a historic building built in 1912 with a perfect downtown location. Whether you’re in the mood to relax and hide from rainy weather, or get out and explore the city on foot Hotel Monaco has you covered.

Location, Location, Location

Downtown Portland
What A View!

Centrally located downtown the hotel is quick walking distance to numerous Portland attractions and eats. Just a block away I found a huge lot filled with food trucks. Armed with a handy map from the concierge I also walked to the Chinese Garden, Voodoo Doughnuts and the Portland Saturday Market. The hotel was also short driving distance to many other area attractions like the Zoo and the Japanese Gardens.

Inside The Room

Bathroom

I’ve had the pleasure of staying in some awesome hotel rooms but I can’t think of any that could match the decor of Hotel Monaco. My 10th floor room was outfitted with a large comfortable bed, 2 flat screen TVs, and a sweet view of the city.

The hotel isn’t small, they’ve got 221 large rooms & suites. The cool decor isn’t only in the rooms either, local art is displayed on every floor and the lobby has a large comfortable sitting area for socializing and relaxing.

The Dining

Red Star Tavern

Attached to the hotel is the Red Star Tavern, which has a menu full of tasty American food items for every meal of the day. With a happy hour that stretches from 4-8 p.m., it’s a great spot to rest the feet after a day of walking the city and enjoy one of the locally brewed beverages. Breakfast at the Tavern was also nothing short of delicious, living up to Portland’s reputation for excellent food.

Amenities

Hotel Monaco Portland

As I’ve been traveling perpetually hotels with lots of amenities have become more important to me. The Monaco offers a fitness center and complimentary bicycles which were great for those like me who love to stay fit and healthy. An evening cocktail hour, morning coffee and tea were also complimentary.

Parking in downtown Portland is crowded and just about every spot has a paid meter; thankfully the Monaco has its own parking garage with valet parking for guests.

Uniquely Pet Friendly

The Monaco is hands-down the most pet-friendly hotel I’ve ever stayed at. They accept any number of pets with no fees or deposits and without any weight/size restrictions. I don’t know how you could make a more pet friendly policy than that! I saw numerous dogs during my 2-day stay as I passed through the lobby. As a dog lover this brought me great joy! For those of you stricken with the unfortunate pet allergies they also have floors of the hotel that are hypoallergenic and animal free.

That’s a Wrap

The Hotel Monaco has received numerous awards and is one of the top 3 rated hotels in the city. Unless you have severe allergies to animal hair, this is the place to stay in Portland!
