Pictured above are the fueling suits hanging in the decontamination room of the Titan Missile Museum. These suits are used as protection by the crew when handling the nuclear missile’s toxic propellant. To the right on the wall is one of the original phones from the silo’s days of active duty.

Once known as Air Force Facility Missile Site 8, the museum is a ‘retired’ and disabled ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) site located in the desert south of Tuscon, Arizona. This Titan II missile silo became active in 1963 for the Cold War, and was capable of sending it’s missile up to 6,300 miles (10,000 km) in under 30 minutes. Now designated a National Historic Landmark it is a very interesting (and scary) part of history.
