A Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel poses for me on one of the lookout points during my day-trip to Bryce Canyon National Park.
The first stop on my New Mexico road trip was the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. The main attractions here are the well preserved dwellings perched high up the side of a cliff; inside natural caves once lived in by the native Mogollon peoples over 700 years ago.

Video and pictures of the Carlsbad Caverns bat flight. Bats flying out of their cave and into the beautiful sunset on a warm summer evening in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Stats and summary from my 2,000 mile long road trip circling around the state of New Mexico. I had 6 days from start to finish and in that time wanted to take in and enjoy as much of what it had to offer as I could. New Mexico is home to 12 national monuments, second only to Arizona; many parks and 3 World Heritage sites.
The spectacular White Sands National Monument located in Southern New Mexico. It’s late evening and the white sand dunes are simply breathtaking! I visited during my week-long road trip through the state in September 2012; unlike anything I’ve ever seen and this was easily the highlight of my trip. The area covers more than 275 square miles and is the biggest of it’s kind in the world.
After I visited the world famous Antelope Canyon a few years ago I instantly fell in love with the beauty and unique experience of being inside slot canyons. They are just one of nature’s creations that draw you in and get your imagination flowing. Check out my pictures from a day-hike into the lesser known and breathtaking Willis Creek slot canyon in Southern Utah.
